2015: Dakuku Peterside emerges Rivers APC consensus gov candidate

PORT HARCOURT—All Progressive congress, APC, in Rivers State yesterday, chose the member representing Andoni Nkoro federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Dakuku Peterside as it’s consensus guber candidate.

Nkoro emerged at the end of a marathon meeting of party’s stakeholders in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Dakuku was a former Commissioner of Works during the first tenure of Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Peterside is the Chairman House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream).
Governor Amaechi at the end of a close door caucus meeting of the party in Government House, Port Harcourt, lifted the hand of Dakuku as the candidate of the party.

A source who broke the news to media men in Port Harcourt, said it was a close door caucus meeting, adding that no media man was allowed into the meeting.

Meanwhile, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Davis Ikanya, who fielded questions from newsmen later on the outcome of the meeting, merely parried questions, saying that the party will conduct primaries for all the various offices.
A top member of the party who spoke to Vanguard on the development, said party chieftains were being careful with their comments not to provoke bitter feelings in the party.

Senator Magnus Abe was among top members of the party rumoured to clinch its ticket for the governorship election.

“You can see that our party leaders are trying to manage the situation not to provoke any bitterness within the party. This decision may have shocked some persons. But the situation has to be managed for the good of the party,” a leader of the party told Vanguard.
