Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Latif Junaidu, has said that there are no Boko Haram religious sect followers in Kebbi State. Junaidu, in an interview in Birnin Kebbi, appealed to the people of the state not to believe in such rumour.
According to the police commissioner, Kebbi people are law-abiding citizens and based on findings there is no presence of Boko Haram followers in the state.
Said Junaidu: “It is not true there are Boko Haram followers here in Kebbi State. No Boko Haram here and we don’t want them. As far as we are concerned, they are not here, people are just spreading the rumour.”
The police commissioner stated that since he took over the security of the state, there has been constant search in every nook and cranny of the state by security men, adding that crime rate is still very low in Kebbi compared to other states in the country.
He said there was no security threats in any part of the 21 local government areas of the state and that people can sleep with their eyes closed.
“The situation here is different compared to my former station (Lagos) where the police is always at alert 24 hours. Here people can sleep with their eyes closed because the crime rate is very low,” he said.
Junaidu commended the relationship between the police and the state government which is responsible for the low crime rate, saying the two parties are carrying out their work diligently without friction.
