Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has accused PresidentGoodluck Jonathan of condoning corruption over the way he has so far handled the issue involving the Chairman of Presidential Task force Team on Pension Reform, Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina.
The speaker who expressed his anger at the administration’s campaign against graft following the House resolution to concur with the Senate resolution asking President Jonathan to dismiss Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina from the Public Service lashed out at the president and accused him pretending to be fighting corruption and engaging in selective fight against graft.
In a motion moved by the Chairman of the House committee on rules and business, Albert Sam-Tsokwa and seconded by the chairman of the House Committee on Pensions, Ibrahim Kamba, the House agreed that there is the need to present a common front with respect to the institutional integrity of the National Assembly. Members who spoke in support of the motion spoke strongly in support of the motion and condemned what they described as the impunity and disregard exhibited towards the parliamentary institution by Maina. They asked the Inspector-General of Police of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, to liaise with International Police (interpol) to arrest Maina. The police had earlier declared Maina wanted.
After taking members comments, a furious Tambuwal fired his salvo at PresidentJonathan. “We won’t be fighting corruption in isolation of some people through selective processes. Whatever Maina represents, we cannot pretend to be fighting corruption yet we are condoning corruption. Every available fact here is against him, those of us in high places must not be seen to be condoning corruption or we will be seen to be paying lip service to the fight against corruption”, he declared
