It seems Nigerians are responsible for the high rate of corruption.
On Thursday 12th December 2013, an event to honour the life and times of former South African president and Human Right icon Nelson Mandela was held at Freedom Park, Lagos.
The governor of Rivers state Rotimi Amaechi was present at the event among other dignitaries. When invited on stage, he spoke on the high rate of corruption in Nigeria and why many politicians will continue to steal
The Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, blamed Nigerians for allowing political office holders to continue to swindle them without questions. Amaechi said politicians have remained corrupt because the people have refused to throw ‘darts and missiles at them’ even when they continue to steal the state’s funds.
Amaechi, said this in Lagos , at an event organised in honour of the late South African freedom fighter, Nelson Mandela. He advised Nigerians to always hold their leaders accountable at every political era.
He said, “If you see a thief and you allow him to be stealing, what have you done? You have stoned nobody; that is why we are stealing. Who have you stoned? They came out and started dancing oil subsidy, oil subsidy. They told you that they stole N2.3trn, what did you do?
“Instead you are protesting ‘bring more oil subsidy’; the oil subsidy that is not reaching the poor. A few individuals are going away with the money and you have done nothing. You are mourning Madiba, who lived up to 95, and he was very angry with Nigeria when he died.
“You’ve heard that $50bn is missing and you have done nothing about it. In some countries people will go on the street until they return that money. It is N8trn, it can change Nigeria.
“Me, I want to steal only $1bn, let them bring it. You read Obasanjo’s letter and you are asking why is he writing the letter, is he a South-South man? In fact, when he was there, what did he do? You, what have you done? If you don’t take your destiny in your hands, we will go and other leaders will come and continue stealing

I saw Wole Soyinka stand up to greet Amaechi in the video , So the next step in Nigeria is civil disobedience Egyptian style
Most Nigerians knew and agreed that , things were bad in the country before and at the time Jonathan took over the mantle of leadership. Most Nigerians voted for him on the basis, that he would start to address the ills of the past govts and make lives of average Nigerian better & Nigeria a much better place. Thats thinking of most Nigerians then. But what did him do? He made the situation worse, instead of making them better. UNEMPLOYMENT is at HIGHEST LEVEL, it has ever been in the history of Nigeria! So are CORRUPTION ,& INSECURITY ! Our ECONOMY is heading south! Our EDUCATIONAL & HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS are all in the gutter. All these are happening under Jonathan's administration , and some people are still making all kinds of excuses for his failures. When are these people going to stop ...
