British High Commission confirms Senator Kashamu was arrested, tried in UK
British High Commission in Nigeria has reportedly confirmed that controversial Ogun State Senator, Buruji Kashamu was arrested and tried in a criminal court in the United Kingdom.
The Nigerian Police was said to have disclosed this on Thursday, June 18, in a statement.
Report said the Police Public Relations Officer, CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, stated that there was enquiry concerning the status of Kashamu’s legal battles in the United Kingdom and United States.
“The police, thereafter, sought relevant clarifications from the British High Commission.“The commission confirmed that Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in the United Kingdom criminal court. But the court was not satisfied that Kashamu had a case to answer.”He added that, “the commission’s clarification did not derogate from extradition request by United States’ relevant departments, and agencies of government in Nigeria.”It was learnt that the statement was issued in connection to the ongoing Kashamu’s extradition battle with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
