A senior Metropolitan Police inspector has been arrested on suspicion of racial abuse, the latest in a string of racism allegations levelled at the force.
Scotland Yard said the officer is being investigated over an alleged incident on Monday in Barnet, north London, while he was off duty.
The inspector, who is based in north London, was arrested Tuesday and has been suspended from duties pending inquiries.
The force's Directorate of Professional Standards (DPS) and theIndependent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are investigating the case.
"The male officer was arrested on suspicion of a Section 4 Public Order Act offence (racially aggravated words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress)," a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
"He is at present on police bail and has been suspended from duties pending the outcome of the criminal investigation."
The allegation is one of several made in recent weeks against Metropolitan Police officers.
In one case, Pc Alex MacFarlane, 52, faces charges over the alleged racial abuse of a suspect in the wake of last summer's London riots, recorded on a mobile phone.
The officer is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court in May charged with a racially aggravated public order offence.
In a separate incident which emerged last week, a black firefighter claimed he was assaulted and shot with a Taser gun by a group of police officers when he went to help them deal with a disturbance.
Edric Kennedy-Macfoy, 28, who has lodged a complaint of alleged racism, also said he was subjected to verbal abuse and arrested without good cause last September.
