Anti-drug agents early Thursday intercepted a large quantity of cocaine before it was loaded on a New York-bound Ezjet aircraft, according to well placed sources.
Five baggage handlers employed by Timehri Handling Services were up to late Thursday morning still detained by the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU). They were all working the same shift
Airport sources told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) that a bag containing four kilogrammes of cocaine was found with luggage that was about to be placed on the aircraft.
The discovery of the narcotic was made around 5:30 AM.
Sources credit this latest bust to good intelligence gathering by CANU.
Police on March 11 discovered two bags with 10 kilogrammes of cocaine on that had been thrown over a fence at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
