Church to honour a ‘ good Nigeria ’ for returning lost 8m

The Church of Christ Disciples Awka, Anambra State has concluded arrangements to honour  a social  crusader and sports  philanthropist, Mazi Omeife I. Omeife for  returning the sum of M8 million its senior pastor, Kelvin Ezennaya Chuks forgot in his car after a ride.
The honour comes up in June 39, this year.
The incident occurred  after Mazi Omeife had picked  the pastor at Oji in Enugu State on his way back to Awka but on dropping his passenger, he headed home even as it neither occurred to any of them that the paper bag was forgotten in the car

On discovering the paper bag containing the sum of N8 million,  Omeife rode back to the   scene where  he dropped the pastor but could not see him., He started making  enquiring from people around the place about the  man of God whom he never met until divine intervention brought the two together with the pastor looking perplexed and bemoaning his fate.
After Omeife had returned the money intact the pastor went back to his church to proclaim the works of God and rare display of honesty and contentment, a development that made the church to decide to honour him.

In a letter addressed to Mazi Omeife  conveying approval of the church to honour him was signed by
Elder J.J. Okafor, Evangelism Secretary and dated May 12, 2012stated described him as an honest and transparent individual whose character and behaviour are worthy of emulation.
The letter reads in part: ”Dear Mr. Omeife we write to inform you of our intention to honour you by the men and women of the Church of Christ Disciples for returning the sum of N8 million which was forgotten in your case by our spiritual leader, Senior Pastor Kevin Ezennaya Chuks on 28th January,2012.

“The congregation is very happy that not all Nigerians are corrupt and slaves to money. Your attitude impressed most of us that we lack words to express our happiness and appreciation over this monumental behaviour of your character , worthy of emulation by all and sundry, hence the unanimous decision of the entire church to honour you on the last Saturday of  30th June, 2012  ay the church premises by 10am dot.”

When contacted, Mazi Omeife who is a philanthropist and patron of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Enugu State  felt humbled by the appreciation of the church through an award adding that he shunned  the urge to keep the money to himself.
According to him, God works in a mysterious and miraculous way.  “In the  first place, when  I saw the pastor in full clergy’s attire, I had the urge to give him a ride and when I saw the money later, my concern was where and how to meet him to hand over the lost money to him, I thank God that I saw him and gave back the money to him. Money is not every thing. I believe that good name is better than money.”
