There was pandemonium in Alausa area of Lagos State on Tuesday following a blast from a vehicle.
The incident happened about 12noon when a van conveying furniture caught fire close to the seat of the Lagos State Government.
Passers-by and motorists who were held up in traffic ran helter skelter for their dear lives as it was assumed that deadly sect, Boko Haram, had struck.
It was later gathered from an eyewitness that the van caught fire as a result of overheating and not a bomb blast.
The source, who simple identified herself as Mrs. Steven, said: “I was going to the Department of Lands and my husband was driving the car.
"As soon as we arrived Alausa and we parked at the Bio Gardens, we heard a loud noise and a van conveying furniture was engulfed in flame.
"People thought it was a bomb and they started running in terror as they assumed it was the Boko Haram that has struck Lagos State.
"I was afraid too but when I ran for cover, I came out and saw that some young men had come to the rescue of the van and were using sand to put out the fire.
"Other motorists also brought out their fire extinguishers and they cooperated to stop the fire, while others removed the furniture.
"When I enquired from the people at the scene of the fire, they told me that it was the engine of the van that caught fire as a result of overheating."
The source added that nobody died as a result the fire but the vehicle’s engine was badly burnt.
