Wal-Mart To Be Sued For $1million Over Racism Claim
Man says he was left traumatised after employee used intercom to make offensive comments
PROBLEMS: Wal-Mart sued for $1million over racism allegations
SUPERMARKET GIANT Wal-Mart is being sued for $1 million by a man who claims he was traumatised by a racist comment made over an intercom at a New Jersey store.
Donnell Battie accused the chain of being 'negligent' after a 16-year-old boy used their intercom to instruct all black people to leave the Washington Township store, reports The Associated Press.
In March 2010 the teenager was arrested and charged with harassment and bias intimidation, however Battie claimed that he was forced to get medical care due to alleged mental trauma he suffered because on the comments.
He is now seeking the million dollar payout to compensate for what he reportedly described as 'severe and disabling emotional and psychological harm'.
Wal-Mart spokesman, Greg Rossiter, told The Courier-Post that the firm has apologised and has worked to put measures in place to prevent a similar incident from happening again.
