An American Court Sitting in Washington DC has been told that a One Million Dollar per year contract awarded to an American Law Firm, Patton Boggs as lobbyist for Nigeria in Washington DC in late 2009 and early 2010 by a top Nigerian Government official was tainted with corruption. Under this contract, Patton Boggs were to help
Nigeria clean its image in Washington.
The court was further told that Right from the start, the Patton Boggs contract was mired in controversy. “First, during the administration of President Obasanjo, Ambassador Andrew Young’s company, Goodworks International, LLC, was Nigeria’s lobbyist in Washington. But with a new government, some of the new officials had personal grudge against Andrew Young who was perceived to be very close to the former President (Obasanjo) and they wanted to remove Goodworks. In the infighting that ensued, Patton Boggs were hired and there were questions over the awarding of Patton Boggs contract and some officials believed that Patton Boggs gained the contract through corruption or some unethical process.”
