RAPE INCREASES IN SOKOTO @ SHEHU SHAGARI UNIVERSITY

 SAY NO TO RAPE
Following the increased activities of rape in Sokoto, the students of the Shehu Shagari College of Education Sokoto, while conducting peaceful demonstration over water shortage and powers problem last week also claimed that the male students during night, allegedly stormed the female hostel and raped their female counterpart in the school.
The students, according to LEADERSHIP SUNDAY over powered the security operatives of the college and penetrated the female hostel and perpetrated the said ugly act.
Though, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY finding revealed that though the college authority had been working tirelessly to fish-out the culprits, no arrest has been made.
Effort to speak to the provost of the College, Prof. Ibrahim Bayero, was unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not responded to by him.
But, the spokesman of the Sokoto tate police command, ASP Almustapha Sani, who confirmed the incident, said; “the issue still remain with the school authority who are yet to report the matter to us for further investigation, so we are waiting for their action”, the PPRO told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY.
Our correspondent gathered that several women were reported raped that night of the incidents as a result of the peace protest conducted by students of the college over water shortage and power outage that have been hampering their studies for over some time.
Some students, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the school was over populated with NCE and undergraduate programmes students, adding that if care is not taken, what is worst than this would happen due to the  situation that is yet to be brought under control.
