A hospital building currently under construction in Benin City has collapsed.
The building came down at about 4pm on Monday while construction workers were still on site.
People are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
It is not yet clear what led to the collapse but some sources cite a collapsed crane which was being used in the renovation of the Central Hospital Benin where this incidence occured.
Rescue workers are trying to bring out the trapped victims, including an expatriate. An update we received is that six workers had been rescued even as the state government says it has sent relief materials to the victims.
Top government officials in the state, led by the deputy governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, are supervising the rescue operation.
