Gun shots and blast were reported in parts of Na’ibawa, Sheka, Karkasara and Shagari Quarters of Kano metropolis last night.
Though details of the violence were sketchy at press time, LEADERSHIP gathered that the gun shots and blast which occurred at about 11pm, lasted for almost an hour.

It was further gathered that some gunmen in Volkswagen Golf car attacked a police checkpoint and threw an explosive at the officers.

The gunmen were said to have fled the area and left the car with three explosives which were later detonated by the anti-bomb squad of the state command.

Also, three riot policemen were reportedly  killed by the  gunmen during the attacks  while their weapons taken away by attackers. Explosions were also said to have occurred at Dorayi and Sabon Titi areas of the metropolis.

Meanwhile, just as normalcy was beginning to return in some part of Kaduna metropolis and suburb, a gang of alleged fake soldiers  yesterday evening stormed Kujama community killing people and burning their properties despite the 24 hours curfew imposed by the state government.

This was just as fresh violence between Muslims and Christian youths erupted in Barnawa, Malali, Ungwar Dosa and Ungwar Gado areas, with scores of death and properties burnt beyond recognitions.

Kujama community is an outskirt of Kaduna metropolis, located along Kaduna-Kafanchan road, with a population of over 50 thousand inhabitants.

A resident of the area, who put a distress call to our correspondent, stated that “I saw five dead bodies on the ground as I am talking to you now.”

He said “we are under attack from fake soldiers, please call the security agencies and alert them of the happenings now, they are shooting and killing our people, they are burning our properties. They are using sophisticated weapons.”

According to the caller who pleaded anonymity the fake soldiers were without military boots or the army armband and were shooting and we have to run for safety.”

Reacting to the development, the Army spokesman, Col. Sani Musa said “there is nothing like fake soldiers, I have been getting such report since morning but there is nothing as such, from our checks, there is nothing like that, our men are on top of the situation in Kujama. Yes, there was an outbreak of violence, but the issue of fake soldiers is just rumours.”

Meanwhile, Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin who was in Kaduna to ascertain the level of the situation, assured the state government that the situation would be a thing of the pass.

Meanwhile, situation in Damaturu is now calm as soldiers have evacuated residents who were trapped during the bombings and fierce gun battle between the security agencies and the gunmen in Damaturu on Monday.

The soldiers were also seen enforcing the 24-hour curfew just as they were moving round the state capital to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
