Jonathan's Second Term Ambition Is Suicidal
A Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Gabriel Giwa-Amu has criticised the rumoured second term ambition of President Goodluck Jonathan. He equally bares his mind on the Oronsaye report, corruption in the judiciary, the defeat of Okonjo-Iweala in her bid for the President of World Bank, and other sundry issues.
OGHENEKEVWE LABA reports EXCERPTS Scrapping of EFCC, ICPC and FRSC I agree completely with the Steve Oronsaye Commission which recommended the scrapping of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Pracrices Commssion (ICPC) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The functions of these commissions are abuse of administrative processes. What is the EFCC doing that the police cannot do? After all, they seconded policemen from Police Command to EFCC. So why should we have EFCC? The police as it is now can do EFCC job effectively.
What I expect Government to do if there must be a parallel body is a commission for the establishment of high profile murder cases like that of Bola Ige and Alfred Rewane. The present Chairman of EFCC, Mr Larmorde was drafted from the police command to EFCC. Most top officers in EFCC were drafted from the police command. I do not know why ICPC still exists. The commission is a toothless bull dog and waste of public fund. How many cases have they prosecuted and how many cases have they won? Traffic warden should be given more power and responsibility within the police force so as to do their job effectively instead of having FRSC duplicating their jobs .
