Police invite Pastor Bakare over comments on Jonathan …As Otedola wants N25bn damages

PASTOR TUNDE BAKARE

The Lagos State command of the Nigeria Police, has invited fiery Lagos Pastor, Tunde Bakare over alleged comments accusing President Goodluck Jonathan of planning to run Nigeria bankrupt.
Apart from the police invitation, the embattled Chairman of Zenon Oil, Femi Otedola has also asked Bakare to pay him N25bn as damages over another comment that both he (Otedola) and the former chairman of House of Representatives Committee on the oil subsidy probe, Farouk Lawan are culpable in the bribery scandal that broke out over the probe.
The Nigeria Politics Online has learnt of an invitation by the Police to come forward and explain his comment at last Sunday’s service at his Later Rain Assembly Church where the cleric allegedly accused President Goodluck Jonathan of attempts to run the country bankrupt.
Our correspondent learnt that though Pastor Bakare is out of the country when the police invitation came, the message has been communicated to him abroad.
The Police invitation, signed by one CSP Usman Ayuba, was dated June 26, 2012.
Titled: Invitation for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, the invitation asked Bakare to report for the “meeting” on Thursday (today).
In an earlier letter written by lawyers to Otedola, Babatunde Koku and Co and dated June 19, the lawyers had alleged that the Pastor libeled the Zenon Oil boss through a news conference he held on Sunday June 18th,   where he said that both Lawan and Otedola were culpable in the ongoing oil subsidy bribery scandal.

Attempts to speak with the police were unsuccessful Thursday evening as the telephone number of the spokeswoman of the Police in Lagos, Ngozi Braide, appeared switched off.
An associate of the Pastor who spoke with our correspondent Thursday evening said Bakare was billed to return to the country originally on July 3rd but could not say if the developments would make him change his arrival date to be able to keep the appointment with the police.
The associate also wondered why both Jonathan and Otedola are up against Bakare at the same time noting that the suspicion of a conspiracy between the Presidency and the oil magnate is being driven home.
