ASABA, June 12,  – Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has pledged the commitment of his administration to reducing the menace of kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.

Uduaghan stated this in Asaba during a Town Hall meeting with youths, to whom he introduced Nigeria internationals, John Mikel Obi of Chelsea FC and Christian Obodo of Lecce FC. He begged the youths to cooperate with his administration especially by furnishing security agencies with relevant information, disclosing that plans were already afoot to ensure that youths of the state are positively engaged.

The governor assured the people that his administration has been making several efforts to tackle kidnapping and armed robbery, and therefore urged them not to pay ransom to any kidnapper as it would encourage the continuity of the criminal act.

“Obodo was a victim of youth kidnap … We did not pay any ransom for his release. The government has made several efforts to clamp down on kidnappers. If you know them, tell them to leave this state because it will no longer be conducive for them,” he boasted.

“I call on Deltans whose family members have been kidnapped not to pay ransom to these kidnappers again. Our security operatives are working hard; that is why we are stressing the importance of intelligence gathering. Most of the victims released were as a result of information from people.”

Speaking briefly, Christian Obodo, who escaped from kidnappers after a day in their custody, thanked the state government and security operatives for their efforts during his ordeal.

“I thank all Deltans for their effort in ensuring my release from the kidnappers den,” he said. “I sincerely thank the state government, the Commissioner for Youth and, above all. I thank God almighty for my release. I will continue to serve God.”
