WHY LAURYN HILL COULD GO TO JAIL FOR TAX EVASION

Five-time Grammy winner Lauryn Hill was charged on Thursday with income tax evasion for three years and could go to prison.
Papers obtained shows the singer made $1.8 million in three years in music and movie royalties:
  • 2005 — $818,000
  • 2006 — $222,000
  • 2007 — $761,000
The IRS says during those years, Lauryn failed to file her taxes.
If convicted, the singer could go to prison for three years and be fined $300,000.
Once a member of the hip-hop band Fugees, Hill is best known for “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”
Hill, who lives South Orange, New Jersey, is scheduled to appear on the charges before U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael A. Shipp in Newark on June 29.
