It was a visibly worried President Goodluck Jonathan that walked into the venue of a high powered meeting with top officials of the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary and anti-corruption agencies at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.
Olufamous.com gathered from a top source that Mr. President opened up to the privilege few who attended the meeting that he is highly embarrassed by the level of corruption that is associated with people in his administration and sincerely want an end to the menace.
Speaking at the end of the meeting, Senate Leader, Senator Ndoma-Egba disclosed that the president is indeed saddened by what is going on. “The president is obviously worried about the incidence of corruption and from discussions we had, all the arms of government are indeed worried about it. We looked at the challenges in the fight against corruption, and some of the issues are constitutional.
"The National Assembly will take another look at these issues. The Judiciary also gave its own insight into the constraints; all of these will be addressed. Funding of agencies, especially the EFCC and the ICPC, was also discussed,” he said.
On his part, the Attorney-general of the federation (AGF), Mohammed Bello Adoke disclosed the President is very worried and that they are now, more than ever, ready to fight corruption.
“Yes, we are coming out with a national strategy on the fight against corruption, and that strategy will involve the three arms of government. We discussed at length, got insight from each arm of government and we will meet again to review the issues that arose from today's meeting,” Adoke said
Also present at the meeting are Namadi Sambo, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Dahiru Musdafa (CJN) Sanusi Lamido (CBN), Ibrahim Lamorde (EFCC); Ekpo Nta (ICPC).
