The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed the recent arrest of five armed robbery suspects, following gun battles in different parts of the state.
The spokesperson for the command, Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, said that arms and other dangerous weapons were also recovered from the suspects.
Braide stated that one of the suspects was arrested last weekend by officers attached to the Trinity Police Station, following a shootout with a gang attempting to rob passersby along Palace Road, Olodi Apapa.
“During exchange of gunfire, one of the armed robbers was arrested, one was fatally wounded, while others escaped with bullet wounds. The police recovered one motorcycle and one locally made pistol,” she said.
In a related development, officers attached to the Okokomaiko Police Station, while acting on a tip off, engaged some armed robbers in a gun battle, arresting four of them.
“However one unidentified male was said to be caught in the gun battle and was subsequently hit by a stray bullet,” added Braide.
“Two locally made pistols with two live and four expended cartridges, one cutlass and a nylon bag containing weeds suspected to be cannabis were recovered from the robbers.”
Braide said the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for investigation.
