ESUT ENUGU VICE CHANCELLOR KIDNAPPED BY 4 ARMED GUNMEN IN DAYLIGHT

In what eye-witnesses described as a well-orchestrated ambush, four heavily armed gunmen staged a daring raid and kidnapped the Vice-chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Cyprain Onyeji, at about mid-day
local time today, Wednesday, August 15, 2012.
Eye witnesses reveal  that the vice- chancellor was about crossing the university main gate at Agbani road Campus when the abductors who laid ambush for him emerged from hiding. They shot sporadically into the air, scaring away students and workers and as well overwhelmed policemen on duty at the campus with their superior firepower who eventually ran for cover, having been taken unawares.
The four- man gang then dragged the vice-chancellor out of his car and bundled him into theirs and sped off to an unknown destination.
Three policemen on duty at the university gate where the incident occurred were seriously wounded in the shoot-out with the kidnappers were being treated at an undisclosed hospital, according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Enugu State command, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the kidnapping. He also said the police were already on the trail of the culprits.
The university's public relations officer, Ossy Ugwuoti, told the media that no demand has yet been made by the abductors, but expressed confidence that the university authorities and the security agents already have a handle on the situation.
