‘Beggars’ Rape Housewives In Delta

A five-man gang disguised as beggars, yesterday, allegedly raped some housewives around DLA road, Asaba leaving them with bruises. LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the incident took place in the early hours of the day when the gang, clad in torn clothes and begging for alms, met the women who reportedly claimed to be “Christian sisters”. The women were said to have offered them some financial assistance and they requested for water.
They were taken to an unpainted building along the DLA road where the women meet regularly to assist the less privileged. Sources said that while the beggars were being served water and fruits, the unsuspecting Christian sisters reportedly took them into some of the rooms where they were allegedly provided water to bath. Our source said that this paved the way for the hidden agenda of the beggars who had hoodwinked the women into believing that they were beggars from Kogi State where they also claimed to have lost their parents. Police spokesman in the state, DSP Charles Muka, said that while the beggars pretended to have their baths, they pulled their guns and ordered them to lie on the ground.
After the act, they were said to have disappeared into thin air. LEADERSHIP investigations revealed that in the last two months, some women who also claimed to be beggars were seen with kids claiming to be from across the Niger River, Asaba and its environs. DSP Muka while reacting to the issue, disclosed plans by the police command to arrest them.
