The Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has nominated a new deputy governor for the state.
In a letter read by the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Benjamin Uwajumogu, on Thursday, Mr. Okorocha nominated his Chief of Staff, Eze Madumere, as the new Deputy Governor.
The new nominee followed the impeachment of the erstwhile deputy governor, Jude Agbaso, by the Assembly at its Thursday sitting.
With 23 affirmative votes from the legislators present, members of the Assembly voted to impeach the Deputy Governor of the State, Jude Agbaso.
The Assembly's Majority Leader, Adaku Ihuoma (representing Ahiazu Mbaise constituency), moved the motion for the impeachment.
The motion was seconded by Pat Ekeji, the Minority Leader (Aboh Mbaise constituency).
The Speaker, Mr. Uwajumogu, confirmed the resolution in favour of the impeachment after its adoption.
Mr. Agbaso was found culpable by an ad-hoc committee set up by the Assembly to investigate an allegation of demand and receipt of N458 million bribe from a Lebanese road contractor in the state.
Imo is one of the two states controlled by the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA; the other being Anambra.
Mr. Okorocha is leading a faction of APGA to merge with three other parties to form the All Progressives Congress.
