The move by a group known as the African Peoples’ Congress, APC to register as a political party, which invariably forecloses the chance of the recently merged opposition All Progressive Congress from using the same APC Acronym has hit the rock as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC today rejected the application for its registration.

The African Peoples’ Congress is a proxy group allegedly being sponsored by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to throw a spanner in the wheels of the merging opposition mega party, the All Progressives Congress, APC..
The rejection of their application for registration as a political party was conveyed to the group in a letter letter by INEC secretary, Abdullahi Kaugama today. The electoral body said the decision was based on the failure of the group to abide by the provision of section 222(a) of the 1999 constitution as amended which requires that all the national officers of the proposed party and their addresses must be registered with INEC before they can be considered for registration.
