Nigerian Police suggest Dino Malaeye staged the attempted assassination

The Delusions of Dino Maleaye

Dino Melaye escapes
assassination in Abuja

Mr. Melaye said two
bullets hit his car.
A former Nigerian federal
lawmaker, Dino Melaye,
Monday night escaped
assassination in Abuja,
Nigeria’s capital city.
Mr. Melaye, an staunch
government critic, was
attacked in the high-brow
Central Business District of
the city, while making his
way home.
He said the attackers,
driving in a Golf car,
crossed his car near the
NNPC towers and
immediately began
shooting at him.
He said two bullets hit his
car before he managed to
escaped unharmed.
“I am safe,” he told
PREMIUM TIMES.

Mr. Melaye, a former
member of the Peoples
Democratic Party, shortly
after leaving the National
Assembly, switched to the
opposition flank, actively
leading the January 2012
fuel subsidy protest.
He has since then
remained an anti-
corruption activist.
“When you fight
corruption, corruption
fights back strongly,” he
said, blaming the attack
on his anti-corruption
stance. -PREMIUM TIMES

Mr. Melaye said two bullets hit his car but the police could not find the shells or did Dino stop after getting shot to  pick up the shells as evidence ?, he said the car was not bullet proof , but his driver said the car was bullet proof , but our CEO deals with bullet proof vehicles and can tell by looking at the picture above that the window shot at is not bullet proof , lots of inconsistencies by Dino

The Commissioner of Police in the Nigerian Capital, Abuja, Olufemi Ogunbayo, has denied that there was an assassination attempt on leading opposition politician, Dino Melaye.
Mr. Melaye said his vehicle was shot at on Monday night in the Central Business District of Abuja; and the former federal lawmaker described the incident as an assassination attempt.
Mr. Ogunbayo confirmed that Mr. Melaye did actually report the incident, but said it could not be described as an assassination attempt as there was no evidence of gunshot.
The police boss narrated what Mr. Melaye reported to the police. He said the ex-lawmaker said he was on his way home from the National Hospital, Abuja in his airconditioned car, all windows wound up, and was listening to cool music when he noticed a range rover sport golf car drive past his.
“The car was said to have parked few meters away from his and the next thing he (Mr. Melaye) heard was a loud sound which he thought was a gunshot. Dino Melaye never said the shot was aimed at him,” the police boss said.
Mr. Ogunbayo said, “The police have gone to the scene of the crime and we could not find any car parked there; no trace of shells on the ground.”
“And there is car dealer store at the area which we went to ask if they heard any gunshot and they said no they never heard any gunshot,” he added.
The police boss said further investigation showed that Mr. Melaye’s car window is not bullet proof; and if there was a gunshot it would have penetrated straight into the car and he would have been shot dead. He said the window has a sign of a crack on it, which could have been a result of the loud sound.
“If they had wanted to kill Dino, they do not need to drive and park meters away from Dino’s car before shooting, they would have just blocked his car and shoot him at the spot, so that cannot be called an attempted assassination. And how then is it possible for you to be in your car wind up enjoying the air condition and a very cool music and then you hear a gunshot?” he said.
Mr. Ogunbayo said Mr. Melaye’s car has been returned to him and further investigations are ongoing on the matter.
Mr. Melaye, formerly a member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party is now one of the most vociferous critics of the federal government. He is now a member of the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria and has been at the forefront of the demand for probity and accountability in government

Dino Melaye seems to be heading in a similar trajectory. by pressing a self destruction button as Police has been to the attempted murder scene and did not find bullet shells or any evidence to support that those gun shots occurred there, there has also been contradictions between his driver and other issue
First, he did the 'honourable thing' honourables do these days when they leave office - become an activist. During #OccupyNigeria, he tweeted and protested against the removal of fuel subsidy with unbelievable fervour. His conviction that he was a bonafide Man-of-the-People was as strong as people of faith are about their salvation. We let that slide.
In the aftermath of his sexcapades which resulted in an extra-marital pregnancy and his frequently misspelt and half-witted tweets, his camp desperately needed a PR stunt to do damage control to reinstate Dino into the Man-of-the-People state of mind again and put their man into our good graces.
However, the botched assassination script they came up with wasn't only just unfortunate enough to be lacking in credence worthy of even an under-par Nollywood movie, but also had the bad luck of being set in motion the same evening the whole world was concentrating on the explosions in Boston.
Playing an almost-Messiah for a few minutes may have increased his self-worth but there are so many inconsistencies particular to this incident.
For example, why does his associate, Ayobami Oyalowo insist the car is bulletproof when there are reports of him refuting such claims? And why is he so sure it was an assassination and not just thieves who wanted to rob the owner of a Bentley with a customized number plate?
It is yet unknown if Dino harbours dreams of staging a comeback to politics but he does need a new team and a new plan. And a clever scriptwriter too.
