How the 9-Man Fraud Gang was smashed
Before he was caught, George Abrue lived a millionaire life style that many could only dream of with properties across various spots in Europe such as Sweden and Spain, it was only a matter of time before the law caught up with George and his none man gang.
As the leader of gang who ran a scam called "boiler room” by the cop , George a 30-Year Old illegal immigrant in Britain had an asset worth over $40million.
He and wife Sarah Robson spent the money on an affluent lifestyle that allowed them to travel the world, buy prestige cars including a £150,000 Bentley, and decking themselves out in diamond-encrusted jewellery. Abrue planned one of Europe’s biggest share frauds setting up several fictitious companies and convincing thousands of elderly people to invest. Some victims lost up to £850,000, costing them their homes and life savings.
Speaking to the press, Detective David Clark said:
“When we found the mobiles, it was like hitting the jackpot. One of the hardest things to prove with fraudsters is how the money was spent. But these people couldn’t resist documenting it all. That arrogance, greed and obsession with showing off their wealth was their downfall.” Seven others were also convicted of money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.“

George Abrue, who also had a house in Sweden, formed the gang with several close acquaintance on Tyneside, Great Britain and went on to run it from the Costa del Sol in Spain. A court heard how George's wife, Sarah Robson – described as the group’s “English secretary” – handled £500,000 of victims’ money over three years and paid cash for a £120,000 home in Houghton-le-Spring, Co Durham, England.
