The physician turned conservative pundit Ben Carson became the latest conservative to connect the Affordable Care Act to slavery during his remarks at the Value Voters Summit on Friday.
“Obamacare is, really I think the worse thing that’s happened in this nation since slavery, and it is in a way–it is slavery in a way, because it is making all of us subservient to the government,” he said. “It was never about health care. It was about control.”
Carson’s critique went one step beyond what we’ve heard from the likes of fellow conservative pundit George Will, who simply drew loose comparisons between the health reform law and the Fugitive Slave Act, which required slaves be returned to their masters.
And that inspired Rev. Al Sharpton to call out the newly-minted Fox News contributor on his show Friday. ”Dr. Carson, you should know better,” Sharpton said.
