Alleged Acid Attacker Mary Konye To Stand Trial Today

HORRIFIC INJURIES: Naomi Oni before and after the acid attack
A VICTIM of a horrific acid attack will see her alleged attacker stand trial today (Jan 6).
Student Mary Konye will face a jury at Snaresbrook Crown Court in east London over the attack that left severe facial injuries on shop assistant Naomi Oni.
She denies throwing sulphuric acid in the face of the 21-year-old Victoria’s Secret worker, leaving her with life-changing injuries.
Oni was attacked in the early hours of December 30, 2012, as she walked home from her job in Westfield shopping centre, Stratford.
She spent a month in hospital after suffering burns to her face, lost her hair and eyelashes, and had to undergo skin grafts.
Speaking about the ordeal, Oni said: "The first time I looked I was shocked. I didn't want to live after I saw my face."
Describing the moment when she first looked in the mirror following the incident, Oni added: "My head was 10 times the size, my face was black, my eyes were swollen and my eyes were cutting out.
“I thought I was going to go blind. I was terrified.”
