Golden Eaglets Musa Yahaya arrives in London to sign for Spurs

alt
GOLDEN Eaglet winger Musa Yahaya is due to arrive in the UK on Saturday February 15 for a medical with north London English Premiership giants Tottenham Hotspurs with a view to signing a youth contract.

Yahaya, 16, was one of the revelations of the recent U17 World Cup which Nigeria won in the United Arab Emirates last year. Nicknamed Iniesta or Neymar by his team mates because of his silky skills, Yahaya has been highly sought after since the tournament ended, with Arsenal reported to be one of the clubs eyeing him.

Currently playing for the Mutunchi Academy in Kaduna, Yahaya will arrive in London on Saturday for the medical and if it goes well, he will append his signature to a preliminary contract. Still a minor, the player cannot yet sign an adult contract, so will join the Spurs youth team until he is 18, after which it is expected that the club will offer him a four year deal.

For the trip to Spurs, Yahaya will be accompanied by his father, his agent Mohammed Babawo and Auwal Yusuf, the Mutunchi Academy coach. Tottenham Hotspurs are hoping that they will beat the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Ajax of Amsterdam to the youngsters signature.

Meanwhile, the technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has appointed Nigeria's World Cup-winning Golden Eaglet coach Manu Garba as new boss of the U-20 team, the Flying Eagles. Mr Garba will be assisted by Nduka Ugbade, a former Golden Eaglets skipper and one of his assistants with the U17 team, while Fancy Ewulu is the new goalkeeping coach.
