Nigeria’s oldest citizen in the United Kingdom Pa Gabriel Lemoshe has passed away this morning less than two months short of his 100th birthday which was to be marked with a grand party by members of the diaspora. Traditionally, the Queen of England writes a personal congratulatory letter to anyone who clocks 100 in the UK and Pa Lemoshe was on course to become the first Nigerian to receive such a letter. He was due to become 100 on March 15 and an organising committee was working hard on a big party to mark the event on the day. However, over the last week, Pa Lemoshe took ill and was taken to hospital on Sunday and unfortunately passed away in the early hours of today. Organisers of his birthday now plan to hold a celebration of his life on march 15 instead of his birthday and family members will be coming from Nigeria to grace the occasion.

Chief Yemisi Sanusi, the chairperson of the birthday organising committee, said:
“God called Pa Gabriel Lemoshe, who lived a glorious 100 years worthy of emulation to eternal rest. He left a Christian legacy of Godliness, uprightness, modesty, punctuality, prayers and love for all. “His instructions to celebrate his wonderful life of 100 years on his birthday of March 15 will be honoured in his memory. May his kind hearted soul rest in peace as he sleeps in the bosom of the Lord.”
