Fire Engulfs Christ Embassy, Lagos

Christ Embassy Lagos

An inferno on Tuesday at the main auditorium of Believers Love World (aka Christ Embassy) at Billings Way, Ikeja, Lagos, resulted in the razing of properties worth millions of naira.
The fire began at about 6.30pm from an apartment housing 14 generators, following a power surge from one of the generating sets. On noticing the fire, the church members attempted to put out the fire with their own extinguishers; and when the fire-fighters arrived, the church members also attempted to put out the fire on their own.

According to General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke Osanyintolu, the fire raged for roughly three hours before it was extinguished by the combined team of emergency agencies at the scene.
“There is no casualty, but one of the fire service men sustained injury”, he said. “The church lost a number of power generating sets and other property.”
Director of Fire Service, Mr. Rasaq Fadipe described the outbreak as “very serious”, saying lots of armoured cables, 14 generators, and the church’s stationary diesel and petrol tanks were affected.
“However, with the effort of the fire service officials, we didn’t allow the tanks to burst. And we also prevented the fire from spreading to the air conditioner house”, he continued.
“When my men arrived at the scene, they were restricted by the church members who wanted to take over the affairs of putting off the fire. We faced serious interference from the church members. I had four fire trucks on ground from Ilupeju, Isolo, Ikeja and Alausa with 10,000 tones of water each and 18 factory-fitted generating sets to combat the inferno”.
