FORSYTH, Ga. —
The mother of a young girl is behind bars after the 5-year-old died Tuesday morning.
The Monroe County 911 Center a call of an unresponsive child at 374 Brookwood Drive at 8:51 a.m. When authorities arrived, they found Heaven Woods not breathing. She was transported to the Monroe County Hospital’s Emergency Room and was pronounced deceased a short time later.
Investigators from the Forsyth Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and GBI immediately started investigating the cause of the child’s death.
The body of the child was taken to the GBI crime lab in Atlanta. Investigators are awaiting the results of the autopsy.
The child’s mother, 33-year-old Amanda Hendrickson, of Rome, was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to children in the first degree. Authorities also arrested Roderick Buckner, 34, of Forsyth, and charged him with felony cruelty to children in the first degree.
Both are being held in the Monroe County Justice Center.
