President of The Nigeria Supporters Club,Rafiu#Ladipo has requested for the provision of about 62 million condoms to made available for the fans that would be travelling for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in #Brazil.
Ladipo made the appeal to the United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) soliciting that 'the condoms' allocation be increased for them.
It is understood that Bilali #Camara, UNAIDS Country Director, had already made provisions for two million condoms to be released for them to last for the whole campaign if Nigeria gets to the final of the tournament.
However the Supporters Club has insisted that the two million will not be enough, adding that instead of two million for the entire duration, that UNAIDS should provide two million condoms each day for the 31-day tournament.
“Of all football loving fans all around the world, I alone will be taking over 10,000 fans to Brazil, not only from Nigeria,"Ladipo said.
“You know that Nigeria will be playing their first three matches and there is going to be a match between Nigeria and Argentina.
“By the time we play that match, we will regard it as the match that will also qualify us to play Brazil in Rio de Janeiro during the final.
“If that is achieved, we want to be protected; we must be protected.
`So, I want to urge you (UNAIDS) to provide more condoms,’’ he added.
Ladipo urged UNAIDS to look into the request to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS during the#WorldCup.
