Why Nigeria Will Accept Help From Anywhere, By Okupe

SENIOR Special Adviser to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe in his interview with CNN last night said military forces are on their way to Maiduguri now. “The president and the Nigerian government are not taking this situation lightly as people think. We are not making noise about our strategies. This is not a football match.

“The government is in support of these demonstrations and public protests. We are all in pain. I have children of my own too and I love them. I can’t imagine how people think a president who loves his people and works for his country will sit back and just allow children to be kidnapped for three weeks without taking any action. We are not Americans, we are not show people but it does not mean that we are not doing something.

“As at today, the federal government has set up an information centre, which will be opened 24 hours and will give information on a daily basis about what is going on. I am just leaving an emergency national security council meeting with the president now, which lasted over three hours.

“I can confirm that President Goodluck spoke to the Secretary of State, John Kerry today and between them they have agreed that America will offer technical assistance in high technology, satellite imagery, reconnaissance and other things to boost the war. We will take help from anywhere.

“Terrorism came on us suddenly, we were not prepared for it. Borno State covers an area of 150,000km, very wide space. How many soldiers do we have to man the state under emergency kilometer by kilometer. There were security forces on ground but that was not enough. A lot has been done to revamp the security system now. We will get those girls, we will get them back,” he said.
