The Defence authorities have said that troops of the Nigerian Army have killed a terrorist commander, Mallam Hussaini, along the Jos-Bauchi Road.
An unsigned statement posted on the official website of the Defence Headquarters, defenceinfo.mil.ng, stated that the terrorist commander was killed during a gun battle between the group and a military convoy.
It was stated that late terrorist commander was billed to launch attacks on Jos when he was killed.
Hussaini and his gang were said to have attacked the military convoy, which was on an operational patrol in the area, but the troops repelled the attack and captured the operational vehicles and some Improvised Explosive Devices, arms and ammunition from them.
The statement read in part, “The terrorists gang had attacked a military convoy while on an operational patrol between Jos and Bauchi.
“At the end of the encounter, the Ford bus used by the terrorists was captured, eight primed Improvised Explosive Devices, rifles, pistols and about 70 rounds of ammunition.”
The statement added that the killed terror suspect led an attack on the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Abuja in November 2002.
It was further stated that the late terror suspect carried out another attack on a military convoy along the Lokoja-Abuja Road where two soldiers were killed in January.
Security personnel were also said to have recovered a vehicle from some insurgents who abandoned it and fled into Niger Republic.
The troops were said to have recovered uniforms of security organisations, as well as protective gears, boots and other goods which they had stolen from various locations towards Nigeria – Niger border.
It was stated also that officers of the Nigerian Prison arrested and handed over two men, Sani Sule and Idris Rume, who were caught loitering around the Aba Prisons to troops for further investigations.

Also at Malamfatori in Borno State, security personnel in pursuit of a band of terrorists who attacked a police station, recovered the vehicles stolen by the gang as it was abandoned while they fled into Niger Republic. Other items which included uniforms of security organisations as well as protective gears, boots and other goods which they had stolen from various locations towards Nigeria – Niger border were also recovered by troops.
In another development, two men, Sani Sule and Idris Rume who were found loitering around the Aba Prisons have been arrested by officers of the Nigerian Prisons and handed over to troops in the state for further investigations.
