BRITISH HIGH COMMISSION CONTRACTS OUT VISA ISSUE TO PRIVATE FIRM

alt

NIGERIANS travelling to the UK have been urged by the high commission to brace themselves for changes to the visa application regime which kick in on July 1 that involve the outsourcing of issuance to a private operator.

Under the new regime, Teleperformance will take over the running of visa applications from the high commission's centre in Lekki, Lagos. Robert Fitzpatrick, the head of public affairs at the high commission, said that as from July 1, visas would be issued from the new facility at Churchgate Tower 2, Plot PC31, Churchgate, Lekki.

Mr Fitzpatrick added: "As from July 1, 2014, our new commercial partner for UK visa services, Teleperformance, will take over the running of our visa application centres in Lekki, Lagos. However, Visa application centres in Abuja and Ikeja, Lagos, will continue to be operated by VFS Global Services.

"We are making no changes to our customer service standards, as a result of this process. We will work closely with our commercial partner to ensure continuity of service during the transition period."

According to Mr Fitzpatrick, applicants would continue to complete their visa applications and payment online, before booking appointments at their nearest application centre. He added that all UK visa applications would continue to be decided by UK Visas & Immigration staff.

"The UK remains open for business and these new arrangements will allow us to maintain a world class, competitive visa system to support Britain in the global race. We are listening to the needs of our customers and these changes will improve our service by increasing the number of visa application centres
