Florida Man Kidnaps & Rapes Woman, Month Later Arrested For Assaulting Wife

Jamal Hanna
On the 16th October, 2013, Jamal Hanna, 28,  was charged with aggravated battery on a pregnant woman, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, he was arrested and jailed. The woman he assaulted was his wife Shantelera Black Hanna who was pregnant with their son. The couple married on the 15th May 2013 and are both Bahamian natives.
Prior to the assault on his wife, on the 27th September 2013, according to police reports they responded to a sexual assault call just before 3 am. Jamal Hanna targeted a woman as she was taking out trash to a motel dumpster. Jamal put his hands around her throat and forced her to a darkened area behind the motel, where he made her perform a sex act, the report said. Hanna then took her to a motel room where he forced her to have sex, raped and sodomized her.
The victim managed to convince Jamal to allow her to shower after he assaulted her. The woman then escaped from him through a bathroom window after she broke it and crawled through, wearing only a bath towel, and cut her thigh on glass shards as she escaped and had bruises on her neck and arms.  Police found her in the 1600 block of North Federal Highway near the motel where the rape happened, officials said.
After being treated for her injuries, DNA samples were taken from her at the sexual assault treatment center.
Jamal Hanna, was considered a possible suspect and consented for the police to take a DNA sampling. Obviously the DNA matched the evidence found on the victim. He was charged with sexual assault and kidnapping after a lab report “stated that with reasonable scientific certainty” on the 15th April.
Jamal was ordered held without bond “based on the level of violence, based on the facts of the case,” said Broward Judge John “Jay” Hurley.
Jamal has also been placed on an Immigration Hold – which means an inmate is in state or federal custody, the federal government wants to deport them and the inmate is not to be released but will be transferred custody from the current facility to ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) once their criminal case is completed. Jamal’s hearing is on the 3rd July 2014.
