Texas newlyweds Christina Munoz, 26, and Nicolas Cruz, 31, were killed in a head-on collision with each other as they drove in separate cars to meet each other, reports the NY Daily News.
Munoz was driving her 1999 Saturn to meet her husband, who was driving a 1990 Mazda pick-up truck, when she veered over into Cruz’s lane and slammed into him.
The couple, who leave behind 3 children, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“It appears speed and the layout of the road, including a hill crest, are going to be factors in the cause of the accident,” Department of Public Safety Trooper Jymie Ha told the Times Record News.
“There was a curve in the road in a small crest of a hill. When they came to that hill they collided head-on. This is a very narrow road, there’s no shoulder marking, there’s no center stripe. The troopers are still looking into it due to very little evidence that was in the road. The cars ended up in the ditch,” said Texas State Trooper Tony Fulton.
Neither Munoz nor Cruz were wearing seat belts and they were reportedly texting each other at the time of the accident.
