Members of Pyrates Confraternity wearing wigs and fake beards march in honour of Nigerian foundation member and Nobel Prize for Literature winner Wole Soyinka. A lecture took place to celebrate Soyinka's 80th birthday last Friday. The lecture was organised by the National Association of Seadogs, also known as the Pyrates Confraternity, founded in 1952 by the writer and six other members of the University College of Ibadan. Presently, the Pyrates Confraternity philosophy includes fighting "against convention", "against tribalism", "for humanistic ideals" and "for comradeship and chivalry".
