I don’t know if I’m being set up, but it seems weird that my best friend is encouraging me to date her ex.

I’m 23 years old, in the final months of my service year in Port Harcourt. It was where I met this former boyfriend of my best friend’s, who is now a big time boy and actually fits the picture of my ideal man. But truthfully, I never gave it a thought that we would ever date, I mean, he had dated my best friend and I knew about it. So it was a no go area, even though, I thought about the dating part.

As fate would have it, he had no such qualms as I had, because he actually asked me out on a date and that was where he said that he would like to really court me, with marriage in mind. To say that I was shocked was an understatement.

For a while, I could not give any response. I was just there, eventually, I told him that I would think about it, especially considering the fact that I know that he cheated on my friend when he was dating her. He quickly proclaimed that had grown in the interval and knew that was no way to treat a woman. But he did not try to force an answer from me that same day.

After that date, I called my best friend and told her that her ex asked me out and even mentioned marriage.

She told me to go for it, as he was now a catch that any girl would like to have, even herself. I was shocked once more, as I had not expected such response from her.

I’m yet to give him a response but he keeps calling me and sending messages. In fact, it seems like we are already dating, even as there is no verbal agreement yet. But I still feel uneasy, knowing he was my best friend’s ex and that she has no problem about it?
