A 27-year-old Nigerian woman named Anastacia Oaikhena-Lambert has allegedly been murdered by her husband Patrick Lambert in their Braeswood Oaks apartment in southwest Houston on Monday.
Patrick Lambert, 38, is said to have stabbed his wife to death before fleeing with their 11-month old son, Achilles Lambert. Anastacia's corpse was discovered stuffed inside their refrigerator after neighbours complained of a foul smell coming out of the apartment.
A neighbour, Nicole Barnes who complained about the foul smell .
"I'm going to be honest, I didn't even think anybody lived there because I didn't see no activity or anything come in and out that house.
"I just told the maintenance, the people in the office that something just smells dead... I really felt bad that nobody came and checked on her. I'm just praying that the baby is found safe."
The late Oaikhena dreamed of some day owning her own television of radio show and according to her LinkedIn page, she studied at Ramkhamhaeng University in Thailand, interned for an AIDS-prevention group before working for a publishing company in Nevada.
Maintenance man Antonio Gamboa said
"I only thought there was a turkey someone had left in the freezer," he said. Houston Chronicles reports that the power had been cut off on Nov. 20, and Gamboa said departing residents sometimes leave food in their freezers. Instead, he found the body.
"It's not what I was expecting," he said.
Sgt. Jason Robles, of the Houston Police Department said,
"We've been unable to contact any family to see if the child is with anyone else and that's our biggest concern right now -- making sure the boy is safe."
The fleeing Lambert is who is originally from New York is described as black, and about 5 feet 11 inches tall and hasn't been heard from in a week. The white refrigerator where they found Oaikhena-Lambert's body stuffed inside was removed on Tuesday. According to the police, her body may have been there for up to three weeks.
Back in September 2, the Houston police got a domestic disturbance call from their apartment but no charges were filed then.
"It was just a threat. A threat was made and she made a police report," said Sgt. Robles.
Police are now asking for help in locating Patrick Lambert and the baby.
"It's going to be in the public's hands right now," Robles said. "Anybody who knows Mr. Lambert or the family is asked to call the homicide division."
