TERROR IN PARIS !!
A manhunt is under way in Paris after gunmen attacked French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo, killing at least 12 in what President François Hollande said was "undoubtedly a terrorist attack". Follow FRANCE 24’s live blog for the latest news.
- French President François Hollande spoke to the press at the scene and stated that the shooting was “undoubtedly a terrorist attack”, adding that “several terrorist attacks were thwarted in recent weeks”.
- The gunmen were armed with Kalashnikovs and a rocket-launcher, according to sources close to the investigation.
- The attackers fled the building and their whereabouts are unknown.
- France raised its security alert to the highest level and reinforced security at places of worship, shops, media offices and transportation.
- Charlie Hebdo has drawn repeated threats for its caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed, among other controversial sketches. A firebomb attack gutted the magazine's headquarters in November 2011 after it put an image of the Prophet Mohammed on its cover.
