No More Line Drawn....“I will investigate alleged missing $20 billion” – Buhari

He was upset that despite the huge amount alleged to have been stolen, the government did not act to get to the bottom of the matter but turned a blind eye when the issue was raised by the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanisu Lamido Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano.

After reading the statement by Nigeria’s president-elect Muhammadu Buhari, which he made on Sunday, some officials of the incumbent administration will be wondering what happened to the Buhari promise to draw a line.
During the campaign season, Buhari said he will not be boggled down by endless investigations of the actions of the outgoing administration but will draw a line against further stealing of the country’s resources.
However while addressing a delegation of APC members from Adamawa state who paid him a courtesy visit on Sunday at his campaign headquarters in Abuja, Buhari said that he will investigate the issue of the funds missing from the coffers of the NNPC?
He was upset that despite the huge amount alleged to have been stolen, the government did not act to get to the bottom of the matter but turned a blind eye when the issue was raised by the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Sanisu Lamido Sanusi, who is now the Emir of Kano.
He regretted that the government hurriedly sacked the former CBN instead of investigating the missing funds.
Buhari who spoke in Hausa language made it clear that his administration would not condone stealing of public funds meant to provide jobs for the teeming jobless Nigerian youth.
“I heard that some people have started returning money; I will not believe it until I go and see for myself.
“Imagine a situation where the former CBN governor who by God ‘s grace would later become the Emir of Kano raised an issue of missing billions of money, not in Naira but in Dollars, $20 billion.
“What happened, instead of investigating to know whether it was true that the money was missing or not, they simply found a reason to remove him. So these are the issues we are talking about.”
