Group, Others Warn Buhari Against Akwa Ibom Delegation’s Visit

A socio-political group, Akwa Ibom Democratic Alliance (AKDA) has described the recent visit of some political chieftains from Akwa Ibom State to the President-elect, General Muhamadu Buhari as self- serving, irresponsible and shameless, advising the in-coming President to be wary of chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) masquerading as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A purported delegation of APC chieftains led by the floored governorship candidate of the party, Mr Umana Okon Umana and comprising former Governor Victor Attah, former Minister of Petroleum Don Etiebet, Senator Ita Enang, Senator Aloysius Etok recently visited the President-elect and recounted the electoral woes of the party during the last general elections and sought the general’s fiat to regain control of the state from the winner of the election Mr Udom Emmanuel.
The Akwa Ibom Democratic Alliance in a statement in Uyo signed by the President-General Comrade Uwem Ekpo said the group was piqued that the delegation comprised members of the PDP and those who had actually worked against the success of the General but who want to warm themselves to the heart of the President-elect to secure political patronage.
According to the Group: “For the avoidance of doubt, both Obong Attah and Chief Etiebet are members of the Board of Trustees of the PDP and to the best of our knowledge, the duo have not resigned their membership of the PDP. Also Senators Enang and Etok are serving PDP Senators who have not also resigned from the PDP.
“The most shameless is Senator Ita Enang who had in widely published interviews before the election said he would not work for General Buhari but is now posturing as an APC member in anticipation of political patronage. We believe even among serial political prostitutes like Chief Etiebet who has jumped in and out of PDP several times, there should be honour,” the Group said.
The Akwa Ibom Democratic Alliance also faulted the non-inclusion of Senator John Akpanudoedehe and Group Captain Sam Ewang (rtd) who they described as the pillars of opposition in Akwa Ibom State among the members of the delegation and advised General Buhari to be wary of PDP members who camouflaged as members of the APC.
Comrade Ekpo, a former councilor in Nsit Atai local government area, commended the position of the President-elect that PDP defectors would not be given a position in his administration. AKDA also described as democratic his position that those who had lost election should follow due process and stay away from unconstitutional acts and pledged their support to the President-elect.
He urged the President –Elect to ensure that people who were involved sharp practices are not left scot-free, and recounted an elder statesman in his locality General Edet Akpan of the APC who was caught by the police and later set free.
A member of the Akwa Ibom Entertainers’ Forum Mr Idorenyin Umana on his part condemned in strong terms the composition and sincerity of the delegation.
He said, “please forget those old thieves, when it favoured them did they go to Obasanjo? Please let us plan about Udom Emmanuel's re-election in 2019, if they like they should go and see Obama in America, Akwa Ibom people have spoken and that is final.
He insisted that, “Umana is fighting for ministerial appointment and he won't see it. He is now fooling Obong Attah up and down but when he was SSG he refused paying Attah his entitlements.”
On his part, a journalist Ubong Nsekpong said, “God will forgive all those stressing Obong Attah at this age for some useless reasons because when the going was good in the past seven years they never recognised this elder statesman instead they published some demeaning articles on National Dailies "What does Attah Really Want".
