Nigeria set to use drones and aircraft to monitor oil installations in the country, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said.
This was disclosed on Monday, June 22, 2015, by NSCDC Commandant-General, Ade Abolurin.
Abolurin said further that the Corps would deploy 500 drones and aircraft as part of efforts to strengthen its operational strategy.
“I can assure you that we are already exploring new approaches which will include the massive deployment of technology as opposed to the outdated conventional approach you are used to,” Abolurin said.
The Commandant-General explained further that some drones had already been deployed on a test run basis to some areas of the Niger Delta region such as Bayelsa.
He also said that the move was in line with the new administration’s resolve to tackle the issue of oil theft in the country.
