A 24-year-old woman is dead after a man believed to be her ex-boyfriend shot her Monday night outside a Target store in Montgomery County.
Donald Wayne Bricker Jr., 27, was arrested less than an hour after Montgomery County Police say he shot Marie Shade Adebayo about 7:30 p.m. outside the Target store in the Milestone Center, at 20908 N. Frederick Road.
Witnesses said they saw Bricker and Adebayo arguing inside a car. Adebayo got out of the car and the suspect followed, they said.
Investigators say Bricker fired in Adebayo's direction, hitting her. Then, he followed Adebayo and fired again, police said.
Witnesses told police they saw the suspect take off in a white Ford Ranger. Officers spotted the vehicle and turned on their lights and sirens, but the driver refused to stop.
Nearly 10 miles from the Target store, Bricker crashed his truck in Darnestown, Maryland, about 8:10 p.m., police said. He was arrested in the 15800 block of Darnestown Road/Route 28 and then hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
A gun was recovered at the scene of the crash, police said.
Bricker has been charged with first-degree murder.
Investigators say Adebayo dated Bricker for about six months, but she had recently ended their relationship.
The family describes Adebayo as a beautiful girl inside and out, who was very forgiving and kind. A vigil will be held for her Wednesday night at Seneca Valley High School, her aunt said.
