Panic gripped Woji community in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital on Friday as a missile from a Nigerian Air Force jet accidentally hit a building in the busy district. Witnesses said a loud blast was heard in the area around 7.30a.m, causing panic among residents who thought the city had come under the attack of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
However, the state Police Commissioner, Mohammed Indabawa, confirmed to an online medium that the blast was from the impact made by the missile when it hit a building in the area. He disclosed that the fighter jet was on routine maintenance at the NAF hangar in Port Harcourt when the missile accidentally took off and hit the building three kilometres away.
