Misappropriation Of Funds: Court Grants Bail To Sylva
A Federal High Court on Thursday in Abuja granted bail to the former Governor of Bayelsa, Timipre Sylva standing trial for alleged fraud.
The trial judge, Justice Adamu Bello ruled that the bail application filed by the ex-governor and argued by counsel to the parties on June 5 had merit.
Bello said that Sylva had convinced the court that he would not jump bail, adding that ``he has also assured the court that he would be available to attend the trial.’’
``In the light of the above, the accused is hereby granted bail in the sum of N100 million and a responsible surety based in the Federal Capital Territory.
``The accused is therefore ordered to deposit his travel documents to the court registrar.’’
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on June 5 arraigned Sylva for allegedly misappropriating the state funds.
The judge adjourned the matter to Sept. 17 for continuation.
