Farouk Lawan Plead With Otedola to Keep $620,000 “Marked Cash” Deal Private
The drama continues in the $620,000 “cash for clearance” scandal involving Hon. Farouk Lawan, Chairman, Adhoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy. The police authorities have asked him to surrender the cash, but the embattled
lawmaker refused, saying, it is the only proof he has that he rejected a bribe from Femi Otedola.
However, an audio recording of the extortion exercise, obtained by huhuonline.com, Hon Farouk Lawan pleaded with Femi Otedola to ensure that their transaction was kept private. “There is something happening in the house, If anybody ask you anything, tell them the house is handling it. We will remove your company name. I am going to spring a surprise on the floor on the house.” Farouk said.
In another audio recording, Hon.Farouk Lawan, asked Femi Otedola, who had just boarded a plane, which was about to take off to china, If the balance money was ready, and provided him the name and phone number of one his proxy, who was to pick up the balance, after Zenon Oil and Gas Ltd was delisted from the probe report.
Inspite of the evidence against Farouk Lawan, he insists he has done nothing wrong. On Monday he made public a memo, entitled “Consistent Pressure to Compromise by Managing Director and Chairman, Zenon Oil and Gas, AP and Forte”.
Hear him:
“My earlier report/discussion with you on the above subject matter and your directives refer. “I wish to inform you that I was on his invitation, at the residence of their(Zenon Oil and Gas, AP, Forte) Chairman, Mr. Femi Otedola in Maitama, (Aso Drive) this morning and he offered me the sum of One hundred thousand US dollars in two bundles of $50,000 each. The money is hereby forwarded as evidence.
“Please find attached the exhibit for onward transmission to the relevant Committee and Leadership.” Hon. Farouk Lawan, only initiated correspondences on May 31th, after he was confronted by Hon.
