New York[RR] New York–PRESS-Release: International community and Nigerians under the umbrella of the International Human Rights Monitor (IHRM) shall hold a massive solidarity march in Washington DC to express the public outrage over corruption and money laundering, abuse of power and civil right violations committed by Ambassador Ade Adefuye and the Nigerian Embassy officials.
Ambassador Adefuye and the Nigerian Embassy have orchestrated inhumane and cruel treatment of Diaspora Nigerians in collusion with the Economic and Finance Crimes, Commission (EFCC). They seek to return Nigeria to past practices of human right abuses that were seen during the Nigeria’s military rule.

Ambassador Adefuye connived with the EFCC, the SSS, the Police and other security agencies in Nigeria to kidnap, torture and file false charges in Nigeria against opponents and critics of the corruption in the Embassy. Curiously this comes at a time when Nigerian masses have been subjected to deprivation and economic disenfranchisement and impoverishment. Their actions undermine the constitution, democratic values and rule of law in Nigeria. Even Nigerians that live in the United States are no longer spared the repression and persecution by the Nigerian security agencies.
As it where, Ambassador Adefuye is supposed to use his position in Washington to join in the search for lasting solutions to the violence and senseless killings of Nigerian Christians by Boko Haram, the Ambassador rather focuses his attention on self- enrichment and graft. At the same time, more and more Nigerians die each week as a result of unchecked violence on innocent citizens. We hereby seek to express our collective outrage for the state of affairs in Nigeria and for an Ambassador who is not capable of serving the interest of Nigeria, and who spends his time chasing irrelevant shadows while our people perish daily in the streets of what is called Nigeria.
On his watch, Ambassador Adefuye presided over the disappearance of 25 million dollars being Nigerian Government funds deposited in the Embassy bank account. At the same time, he and some corrupt Nigerian politicians have turned the Nigerian Embassy bank accounts into a means for perpetrating money laundry, and corruption, to a point that has brought the dignity of all Nigerians to disrepute. Whereas, Ambassador Adefuye was sent to Washington to uphold the honor and dignity of the peoples of Nigeria, his actions have eroded the confidence of the world on Nigeria and have brought all of us to disrepute.
We are equally outraged by the letter from Ambassador Adefuye to former EFCC boss, Mrs. Farida Waziri dated December 4, 2010, which, requested the assistance of EFCC to abduct, and torture a Washington-DC based Lawyer, Ephraim Emeka Ugwuonye. In his letter, Adefuye wrote, “We need your support because when he delayed to reply to the court summons, he lied that he went to Nigeria on the invitation of the government. This made our case look week. I am soliciting the support of your agency to put this man on the wanted list and arrest him as soon as he appears at any of our entry points.” Based on Adefuye’s letter an innocent Nigerian was kidnapped, detained, imprisoned out the law and tortured. If this could happen to Attorney Emeka Ugwuonye, this could happen to any one of us.
Also, Adefuye similarly directed the EFCC to ambush another citizen (Mrs. Olubufunmi) based in the US over a commercial dispute between Ambassador Adefuye and the Nigerian. Curiously, Ambassador Adefuye reportedly defrauded Mrs. Olubufunmi’s African Network a whopping $528,000.00. When Ambassador Adefuye could not pay her, he handed her over the EFCC, which is now investigating her.
We strongly believe that if these money laundry scandals, and looted funds by embassy officials and Abuja government official were judiciously used, it would improve the lot of our people (improved roads, equipped hospitals, clean water supplies, job creation, clean-air, equipped educational establishments, improved security, and better life for all).
Between 2009 and 2012 over 20,000 people have been killed by bombs and political assassination cases: Sectional Islamic fundamentalists, Boko Haram, in its determination to annihilate the poor, women, children, old people and destroy businesses worth billions of dollars thereby exacerbating the decadence in the country increases the suffering of our people in the homeland.
To this end, International Human Rights Monitor (IHRM) in collaboration with other human rights organizations, activities, friends of Nigeria (for example, Occupy Wall Street-Group, Republic Reporters.com), and Nigerians at home and in the United States demand that Ambassador Adefuye resign immediately—we equally express solidarity with the Nigerian suffering masses who have suffered incredibly these years. We say Enough is Enough:
Date: Thursday July 26th, 2012
Venue: The Nigerian Embassy Washington-DC,
Address:
3519 International Court Northwest Washington, DC 20008
(202) 986-8400

Time: 12:30 NOON
Speakers would include: Tino Bendel, Chepper (Occupy Wall Street Activist), Abdi Ega, C. K. Ekeke, Ph.D, Carlisle (Carl.) Umunna, and others, (More Speakers on the way…)
We demand the following:
1. That Nigerian Ambassador Ade Adefuye resign immediately, because he has abused his “Diplomatic immunities, rights, and privileges”;
2. Immediate overhaul of the Embassy in Washington-DC, that the Federal government at Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja institute a independent panel of inquiry with respect to missing $20Million accrued from Real Estate sales deposited in M & T Bank, and others, investigate the criminal activities of Ambassador Adefuye, EFCC, and more on what really happened to the missing funds, including investigation of money laundry allegations;
3. We demand that better equipped FBI, and CIA, be consulted in this investigation since, EFCC that the president ordered three weeks ago to investigate embassy scandals is comprised, as the letter from Ambassador Adefuye to anti-graft agency revealed. We think EFCC is also incapacitated. Findings from these investigations should form the pillar for immediate prosecution of individuals, companies and their collaborators who have duped the people and the country, and sharp punishments, imprisonments, and other consequences imposed accordingly; we demand that officials involved in distribution of 1.7 Trillion of oil-Subsidy from importation of petroleum products, be arrested and prosecuted according;
4. We demand that the government should overhaul Nigerian embassies around the world, since Nigerian embassies officials operations are one and the same thing wherever they are located, stealing from Visa fees/application fees, that it should not take more than 9 months to over these embassies;
5. We demand that the government make public Petrol Production and Distribution (PPD) policies directed at 500% local production of petroleum products within the space of 10months;
6. We strongly demand the government audit and make public the Nigerian Washington-DC accounts, and explain what happened to the $20Million accrued from Nigerian Real Estate Sales, 2004, with monthly interest of $350,000.00 since 2004 to 2012 with accurate embassy inventory rather than denials, and conflicting numbers from Embassy officials and M&T Bank officials;
7. We demand that massive corruption and money laundry at the Nigerian Washington-DC embassy should be addressed once and for all, and official crooks and perpetrators brought to justice. Nigerian Diaspora and larger population and suffering masses should not be made to pay for the incompetence and corruption by embassy official, and FCT-Abuja officials;
8. Finally we unequivocally demand that the government and its officials end the act of mockery at leadership, because if it underestimate the people’s power, and resolve to act, via massive protest at these diplomatic shamelessness and perfidy of officials at Nigerian embassies particularly Nigerian Washington-DC embassy, in addition, to the incessant rape, continuous insecurity and killings in the country by
Boko Haram, government sponsored killings, by their friends and cronies within the government, it will live to regret these practices, one way or the other.
Please join us as we protest incompetence, corruption, killings in the country, and express an uncompromised support for our people in the homeland, by defending our human rights, honor, and restore the dignity of man, women and children.
Signed
Carlisle (Carl.) Umunna
